The Guild Question

When the matter of Guilds came up , we of the then NANTAP executive were of the opinion that members should be allowed to form guilds as they feel the need, but that they should continue to acknowledge NANTAP as the central body that they would turn to whenever the interests of two or more guilds overlap as indeed we knew they would.

We refused to initiate the guilds and remained worried for quite some time as hardly anybody in the house seemed eager to initiate them inspite of our entreaties.

When the guilds did come, the empire owning spirit took over and everyone seemed to seek total independence.Now there is such a myriad of Guilds out there and no acknowledged centre. Each time I think about it I cannot but wonder where NANTAP got the Guild Question wrong.

The Anniversary Begins !

Finally there are signs that the International Theatre Day this year will come with a celebration of the Association's 20th Anniversary. Here is the text of an sms I received. It is signed simply-NANTAP so I cannot tell you if it is National NANTAP or any of its branches.

The text:'2oth Anniversary of NANTAP/ITD 2009 kicks off tomorroe 24th March at Amuwo Odofin LG Secretariat, 41 RD,Festac by 9am. Be there!'

Of course,I cannot be there seeing that I am snugly tucked away in Uyo, but what about you doing your best to be there. Later, you can tell me the story and I may help you tell the world whatever part of it you want to make public.

Welcome to NANTAP Blog !

It is a new year, its a new beginning and NANTAP too is bracing up for new heights. Very soon, we shall be celebrating 20 years of NANTAP and, of course, the International Theatre Day (ITD - March 27 ). We shall keep you posted on events.
